Michael T. Gmoser

Michael T. Gmoser

My name is Mike Gmoser and I am the elected Butler County Prosecutor. I am a lifelong conservative Republican and maintained a successful trial practice for thirty-seven years. I served as Chief Trial Counsel and Assistant Butler County Prosecuting Attorney for nearly eight years during the 70's and 80's. In 1981, I served as the Prosecuting Attorney by special appointment of the County Commissioners during the absence of the Prosecutor due to health reasons.

I consider my appointed service as co-chair of the Bar Association Certified Ethics and Grievance Committee for eight years and membership for 36 years among the foremost of my prior public service accomplishments.

I am in excellent health and currently hold a FAA medical certificate for the high performance aircraft I fly with seaplane and instrument ratings. Underwater photography, deep sea fishing, astronomy, rock climbing, paragliding and beekeeping are also high on my list of interests and pastimes.

Mike's quote of the month: "We are all gardeners and each day we sow the seeds of our own success or our own destruction...choose wisely every day."

A Prosecutor's Perspective on the Heroin Epidemic

Statistically, deaths from heroin continue to rise to epidemic proportions. If there is any doubt, for confirmation ask any county coroner in any county across the entire country. All segments of society are affected from the very poor to the very rich. Heroin has become an equal opportunity killer.

This scourge must be attacked like any epidemic we have faced in the past just as we attacked the polio epidemic sixty years ago when the lives of all our children were on the line. It will take a massive and coordinated effort and the consequences of inaction will be tragic with an ever increasing number of parents and grandparents losing family members by death and addiction from this deadly drug.

Before presenting my solution, please consider my perspective on the causes for this growing cancer among us... Continue Reading

latest news

The office of the Butler County Prosecuting Attorney serves many functions within the framework of county government. The Prosecutor and his staff are responsible for the prosecution of all felony cases. This includes advising law enforcement officers about legal questions which may arise during investigations, assisting in the procurement of search and arrest warrants, and presentation of the cases at preliminary hearings, grand jury, and at trial. In Juvenile Court, our office prosecutes juveniles charged with being delinquent and unruly. We also represent Butler County Children Services in cases involving abused, neglected, and dependent children. Should there be appeals to any of these cases, the Prosecutor's Office presents the cases to the 12th District Court of Appeals, the Supreme Court of the State of Ohio, and, if necessary, to the United States Supreme Court.

In addition to criminal and appellate work, the Office serves as counsel for all Butler County government offices and agencies, townships, and school districts. It is the responsibility of the Prosecutor's Office to provide legal opinions, prepare legal documents, review contracts, initiate law suits on behalf of the governmental entities, and defend them in courts and before administrative agencies.
