Appellate

The Appellate Division represents Butler County and the State of Ohio in appeals in criminal cases to the Twelfth District Court of Appeals, the Ohio Supreme Court and the United States Supreme Court. This division also litigates post-conviction proceedings in the trial courts, state actions in habeas corpus in defense of Butler County officials, and defends county officials in actions in mandamus, prohibition and procedendo, and further acts as a liaison to the Ohio Attorney General's Office Corrections Litigation Section and Capital Crimes Section as to federal litigation concerning prisoners convicted in Butler County Courts.

The attorneys of this division also assist the Criminal Division attorneys with pre-and post-trial motions, trial memoranda, and supervise law clerks who research and draft legal documents for the Criminal and Appellate Divisions.
