Jeffrey Briley, age 29 of West Chester, Sentenced
February 26, 2009
Jeffrey Briley, age 29 of West Chester, was sentenced yesterday afternoon to four years in prison by Butler County Common Pleas Judge Noah Powers for severly beating a two-month old baby and a one-year old toddler. Briley previously pled as charged to two counts of Endangering Children, both second degree felonies. Briley admitted to West Chester Detective A.J. Schweier and David Mize that he had picked up both children, whom he knew from residing with them and their mother, and throwing them to the ground because they had been crying. Briley also admitted to giving the two-month old CPR after the impact because it appeared he had stopped breathing. The two-month old was taken to a doctor in late March 2008. When the baby didn’t appear to be improving, the mother took the child to Childrens Hospital in Cincinnati. The hospital discovered the two month old had suffered numerous skull fractures, brain bleeding, several rib fractures, a wrist fracture and a toe fracture. As a result of the injuries to the two month old, his one year old sibling was also examined. The hospital discovered she had likewise suffered skull fractures, as well as bleeding in both ears. “Men who beat babies and toddlers make you insane with rage. How can anyone brutalize an innocent baby and then to do it on multiple occasions, is nothing short of a nightmare? We can’t thank Detectives Schweier and Mize enough for their help in taking guys like this off the street to keep the rest of us safe,” Prosecutor Piper stated.
