May 07, 2007

Press Release For Immediate Release May 7, 2007

(Hamilton, OH) The Butler County Prosecutor’s Office and the Fairfield Police Department have consulted regarding the death of 14-month old Alexis Board, who died early Sunday morning as a result of injuries inflicted by Rod Edwin Vanloan, the baby’s natural father. Originally charged with endangering children, a second degree felony, Vanloan has now been charged with murder. Vanloan has been charged with murder by the Fairfield Police Department after consulting with the Prosecutor’s Office. Murder is punishable by life in prison with parole eligibility in 15 years. Vanloan will be arraigned on the new charge tomorrow at 1:00 PM, in the Fairfield Municipal Court before the Honorable Judge Campbell. Bond will be set on the new charge at that time.

Prosecutor Piper stated, “Detective Sears and the Fairfield Police Department have performed an outstanding job in collecting evidence and interviewing persons involved. We are yet to understand why these horrible injuries were inflicted upon this toddler....it is an excruciatingly painful case to see. We will ask the grand jury to consider aggravated murder charges because of the age of our young victim. We are deeply appreciative of the assistance we have received from the Hamilton County Coroner’s Office and Children’s Hospital, as the medical evidence will also help us seek the most serious charges possible....this case deserves nothing less. Because this is a pending investigation and the grand jury will be considering other potential charges, neither the Fairfield Police Department, nor the Prosecutor’s Office can provide further details at this time.”
