June 11, 2007

Press Release For Immediate Release June 8, 2007

(Hamilton, Ohio) Dashawna Murage, a 29-year-old Middletown woman, was found guilty as charged today of Obstructing Official Business (F5) by a Butler County jury after 25 minutes of deliberation.

Murage's charge stemmed from an incident on March 14, 2007, on the Freedom Court property of the Butler Metropolitan Housing Authority in Middletown. When Dep. Dave Fant of the Butler County Sheriff's Office attempted to issue a parking warning to Murage for parking on the property without a BHMA parking permit, Murage became volatile. As Dep. Fant ordered her to stop, Murage attempted to flee in her car through the grass. When Dep. Fant got her car door open in an attempt to get her to stop, Murage repeatedly slammed the car door on Dep. Fant's legs in attempt to close the door and flee the scene.

“Sometimes it pays to be polite and listen to the police. Some people seek out conflict, particularly with law enforcement officers. Here is a young person who didn’t have to end up in court, with a criminal record, if she had only stopped and thought about what she was doing,” Prosecutor Piper stated.

Sentencing is scheduled for July 11, 2007, at 10:00 am before Common Pleas Judge Sage.
