55-year-old Hamilton man pled guilty as charged to three counts of Attempted Murder
August 01, 2007

Press Release For Immediate Release August 1, 2007

(Hamilton, OH) - David Laprade, a 55-year-old Hamilton man, pled guilty as charged to three counts of Attempted Murder (F1) today before the Honorable Judge Michael Sage.

At around 4 am on January 21, 2007, Laprade attacked his live-in girlfriend of 17 years, Johni Brand, in the basement of their home on Park Avenue. After stabbing Ms. Brand over a dozen times in the chest, Laprade stabbed Brand's 17-year-old daughter multiple times when she entered the basement to render aid to her mother. Laprade then repeatedly stabbed the couple's 14-year-old daughter when she, too, entered the basement to help her mother and sister. All three victims suffered life-threatening injuries.

At the conclusion of Laprade's guilty plea, Judge Sage sentenced him to 20 years in prison. This sentence was the result of a plea agreement by which the child victims were spared having to testify at trial in exchange for the 20 year sentence.

Prosecutor Piper stated, “We are pleased the children won’t have to testify and Laprade will probably never get out of prison. If his health holds up - he can’t be released until he’s 75-years old. This attack was vicious and brutal and will undoubtedly leave the victims physically and psychologically scarred. If he lives out his remaining days in prison, its for the good of all involved.”
