Middletown resident pled guilty to beating and robbing 91 year old woman

(Hamilton, Ohio) Michael Thompson, a 31 year old Middletown resident pled guilty and received a sentence of 27 years in prison yesterday for the beating and robbery of a 91 year old woman last year. On May 23, 2005, Defendant Thompson broke into the home of his neighbor, a 91-year old woman, while she was sleeping. The woman was abruptly awaken when Thompson began striking her repeatedly in the head and face and then choked her until she became unconscious. Thompson then preceded to steal the woman’s purse and money and fled to Canada to avoid capture. The victim was unable to identify her attacker, however, managed to scratch the him during the attack, providing police with invaluable DNA evidence used to identify Thompson as the attacker. Before Common Pleas Judge Pater, Thompson pled guilty to one count of Aggravated Burglary, Aggravated Robbery and Kidnaping, all felonies of the first degree, along with Escape, a felony of the second degree. He received 8 years incarceration on each count of Aggravated Burglary, Aggravated Robbery and Kidnaping and an additional 3 years for the Escape charge. All sentences are to run consecutive for a total of 27 years. Prosecutor Piper stated, “You couldn’t give him too long of a sentence for me. To attack somebody in their sleep, let alone a women who is 91 years old is reprehensible. The DNA was an important link to catching the attacker. Thank God she scratched him during the attack, giving us this valuable evidence, which helped us track down the coward who had fled to Canada. He deserves every day in prison he gets.”
