August 21, 2007

Press Release For Immediate Release August 20, 2007

On August 20, 2007, Defendant Kofi Gyekye entered guilty pleas to three counts of Rape before the Honorable Patricia Oney in Case Number CR06-08-1498. Gyekye, age 45, sexually assaulted a West Chester child in West Chester Township and in Forest Park. Det. Andrew Schweier of the West Chester Police Department and Det. Darlene Hall Miller of the Forest Park Police Department conducted investigations which resulted in Indictments in both Butler County and Hamilton County. After the Defendant's plea, Judge Oney found him to be a sexual predator and sentenced him to nine years in prison. Gyekye is scheduled for trial in Hamilton County in September.

Prosecutor Robin Piper stated "Gyekye plead guilty as charged to our indictment now our young victim won't have to testify in court. He will have to serve a full nine year sentence and hopefully he picks up additional time from Hamilton County. There isn't anything more disgusting than an adult who sexual abuses a child. There is no way of undoing the damage. Our mission will continue to be prosecuting these cases vigorously."
