Self-Proclaimed Fire Bug Gets 15 Years to Life
September 13, 2007

Press Release For Immediate Release September 13, 2007

“Self-Proclaimed Fire Bug Gets 15 Years to Life”

(Hamilton, Ohio) Adam Collinsworth, a 20 year old, Middletown man, received a sentence of 15 years to life today by Common Pleas Judge Keith Spaeth. Collinsworth was convicted by a jury last month of Murder and two counts of Aggravated Arson by a Butler County jury.

On March 4, 2007, at approximately 1:30 a.m., defendant Collinsworth intentionally set fire to his grandfather, Clarence Collinsworth’s front porch. The fire quickly spread and when emergency personnel arrived, the house was fully engulfed. An upstairs occupant, Herma Gayhart, was able to escape with the help of Middletown officers. Firefighters attempted to rescue Clarence Collinsworth but were unsuccessful due to the intensity of the fire.

Prosecutor Piper stated, “Collinsworth used fire to cover up that he stole money from his grandfather. He was angry with his grandfather because he couldn’t “sponge” from him anymore and his grandfather told him to find another place to live. How cowardly can you get? Setting fire to a house is extremely dangerous and this “fire bug” killed his own grandfather. This isn’t the only fire Collinsworth has set, but hopefully this was his last. Collinsworth has no concern for the lives of others and displays all the classic symptoms of a pyromaniac.
