Press Release For Immediate Release October 15, 2007

(Hamilton, Ohio) The Butler County Prosecutor announced today the successful prosecution of a dangerous criminal. Adam Chasteen, a 25-year old Hamilton man, was found guilty, resulting after a trial in Judge Sage’s courtroom on charges of Kidnapping, Intimidation of a Witness, and Assault.

On May 28, 2007, the defendant drove over to his ex-girlfriend’s home to confront her because she would not return his calls. He proceeded to assault her and slam her head against a metal post. The victim’s cousin came to her defense, but was also assaulted. The defendant pulled a knife and demanded that his ex-girlfriend come with him.

A concerned citizen overheard yelling and called 911. The Hamilton Police Department was able to respond in time to catch the defendant at his home with the victim.

After the defendant’s arrest, he called the victim and told her not to show up at court or he would find her and her family. Judge Sage deliberated about 30 minutes before finding the defendant guilty. He told the courtroom that it was clear by the evidence that the defendant had the purpose to terrorize the victim.

Prosecutor Piper stated, “This kind of violence will always be aggressively prosecuted. Once the defendant is incarcerated, the victim can have peace of mind knowing he can’t hurt her. No one should have to live with constant fear. We are grateful for the Hamilton Police Department’s quick response and apprehension of Chasteen. They just may have saved the victim’s life.”

The defendant will be sentenced on November 21, 2007 before Judge Sage. He is facing 15 years in prison.
