Press Release For Immediate Release November 21, 2007

(Hamilton, Ohio) Robin Piper, Butler County Prosecutor, announced today the conviction of a career criminal. A jury found William Pfeiffer, a St. Clair Township man, who has 10 previous DUI convictions, guilty of Operating a Vehicle under the Influence (OVI) and Driving Under Suspension (DUS).

On May 16, 2007, at 10:30 a.m. Mr. Pfeiffer was a block from his house when he was stopped by a train. A passing deputy saw a vehicle parked behind a stop sign with no headlights on and stopped his cruiser to investigate. Upon approaching the Mr. Pfeiffer’s truck, the officer quickly noticed several indicators of impairment. Upon search the vehicle, the deputy located beer cans, and Mr. Pfeiffer admitted to recently drinking.

Mr. Pfeiffer refused all field sobriety tests and was arrested and taken back to the police station. At the police station, Mr. Pfeiffer refused to take a breath test and said that he would just admit he was drunk. Today’s verdict is Mr. Pfeiffer’s 11th conviction for operating a motor vehicle while being impaired with alcohol and his second such conviction this year alone.

The jury also found Mr. Pfeiffer guilty on the OVI enhancement for having more than 5 OVI’s in 20 years, and he now faces up to 7 ½ years in prison.

Prosecutor Piper stated, “With his conviction record, who knows how many other times he has driven while impaired. In essence, he is a career criminal. The danger he poses to the public when becoming intoxicated and driving a car is like a reckless person shooting a gun off in public - any one of us could be the victim of death or serious injury. This individual has demonstrated that he refuses to stop driving while he is drinking - he should go to prison for a long time.”
